The Power Of Belief: Shaping Your Journey

Explore, Learn, and Discover

Before we dive deeper, let’s explore what a belief truly is. Many of us think that beliefs are fixed, unchangeable parts of our psyche, something that is hard to alter once formed. I’m here to challenge that notion and share with you a different perspective on beliefs.

At their core, beliefs begin as simple thoughts. A single thought can spark the creation of a belief. While we can consciously form beliefs, many are born from powerful life experiences. Consider the example of a three-year-old child who touches a hot stove or fireplace. In a moment of intense physical pain, the child forms the belief that stoves and fireplaces are dangerous, because of the powerful emotional charge attached to the experience.

Beliefs can also form from repeated focus and attention. When we consistently focus on something, whether it’s a topic, person, or fear, a belief begins to grow. For example, if you consistently pay attention to news stories about economic downturns and unemployment, you begin to notice more evidence supporting these stories. As you find more examples, your belief strengthens, creating a cycle that can be hard to break, much like a hamster running endlessly on its exercise wheel. To stop this cycle, we must consciously choose to pay attention to something else.

Many of the beliefs we carry today were formed before we were even five years old, some even before we could speak. These early beliefs are often limiting because, as children, we felt we had little power over our circumstances. We had to conform to the expectations of others to feel loved and accepted. As a result, many of our beliefs run unconsciously, limiting our potential, simply because we have never taken the time to question or explore the beliefs that shape our reality.

Belief as the Foundation of Conscious Creation

Belief is one of the cornerstones of Conscious Creation; the art of deliberately creating or manifesting the life we desire. To manifest anything, whether it’s something you want or don’t want, you must first believe it is possible.

What if I told you that the world you experience is largely shaped by what you believe is possible? The power of belief is so immense that it can either open doors to endless possibilities or build walls that prevent us from reaching our fullest potential. Our beliefs are the lens through which we experience life, and they have the power to shape our reality in ways we may not fully understand.

The Invisible Ships: A Story of Belief and Perception

Let me share a story to illustrate the power of belief. This story, though seemingly about perception, holds a deep lesson about how belief shapes what we see.

In a time when the world was expanding and new lands were being discovered, there was a remarkable event that most people could not understand. As a fleet of European ships approached the shores of the Americas, the indigenous people, standing on the beach, gazed out at the horizon. But strangely, they could not see the towering vessels just beyond the shore.

For them, the ships were invisible, unperceived and unreal, because they had never encountered anything like them before. These great ships were beyond their understanding, beyond the scope of their beliefs, so in their minds, they simply did not exist.

It wasn’t until a shaman, deeply connected to the world of spirit and possibility, began to sense something unusual. He saw a faint outline of something unfamiliar, and as he focused more, the ships slowly became clear. Once the shaman shared his vision, others began to open their minds to this new reality. And soon, they too could see the ships.

Credendo Vides: By Believing, One Sees

This story beautifully illustrates a concept known as Credendo Vides, a Latin phrase meaning “By Believing, One Sees.” It reveals a profound truth: what we believe directly shapes what we are capable of perceiving and experiencing.

Our minds filter reality through the lens of our beliefs. When those beliefs are limited, when we believe something is impossible or unattainable, we unconsciously close ourselves off to the very possibilities that could transform our lives. The ships were always there, but it wasn’t until the people believed in their existence that they could truly see them.

Self-Love and Its Role in Conscious Creation

In much the same way, the beliefs we hold about ourselves and the world shape our experiences. If we believe we are unworthy of love, success, or abundance, we may never recognize the opportunities that are right in front of us. However, when we shift those beliefs, when we start to believe in our worth and our potential, everything changes.

One powerful way to begin shifting your beliefs is by practicing self-love. This is the foundation of Conscious Creation. When we choose to love ourselves, we affirm that we are worthy of all that we desire. This belief in our own worth opens the door to new possibilities. It is not always easy, but self-love is a practice, and like any skill, it strengthens over time.

One way to foster more self-love is to engage in regular affirmations that focus on your worth. For instance, you could stand in front of a mirror each day and say to yourself, “I am worthy of love, success, and happiness.” Another method is to keep a gratitude journal where you list things you appreciate about yourself, your abilities, and your journey. By consistently focusing on your own worth, you begin to see yourself differently, and the world around you will begin to reflect that change.

Seeing Beyond Limitations

Just as the shaman saw the invisible ships where others could not, you too can train your mind to see beyond your current limitations. As you begin to believe in your potential, you will see opportunities, growth, and transformation that you once thought impossible.

I encourage you to reflect on the invisible “ships” in your life, the opportunities, dreams, or breakthroughs you may have missed because of limiting beliefs. Perhaps there are possibilities waiting for you just beyond your current perception.

I invite you to embrace Credendo Vides as a guiding principle: By believing, you will see the life you desire. To help you begin uncovering the beliefs that could be standing in your way, we’ve created a list of questions to guide your self-reflection.
